Today I opened the newspaper to read an article The Botox Debate. Vanessa Green, editor of Beautiful You was asked to speculate on who she thinks is using botox. My name is there with the following- ‘Beauty Lorraine Downes: Yes- but she is beautiful with it and they are doing a perfect job.’
For the record, I do not do use botox or any other appearance medicines and never intend to. For anyone who knows me or has followed my career, I made a public stand on making a decision to age naturally in 2010. This has been documented in many media interviews. The reason for this is, like all women, we all have to face up to the fact that we are indeed going to age. Some choose to want to stop the ageing process by using appearance medicines like botox or having plastic surgery, and some choose to age naturally. That is what I decided to do in 2010. Most importantly the main reason for my decision is my health and well being, this is my paramount concern and I did not want to be putting anything into my body that is a chemical toxin. Lastly, I got to the point where I decided that I didn’t have a problem with my wrinkles and that ageing naturally felt the natural path to live by.
At the same time, I started working with Living Nature who produced 100% synthetic-free skincare and cosmetic products. Therefore, I know everything that I am using on my skin, is natural. I also know that I live my life authentically to my truth and could never put out a message to the public or my clients that is a lie.
By having Vanessa Green make a statement about me in this respect, it creates ethical counter-productive issues that I feel I now have to correct. In my role as brand ambassador for companies and causes that choose to maintain an ethical standard that is above reproach, I feel this casual approach to undermining and assuming that I have chosen a pathway that is directly the opposite to what I actively and consciously maintain on a daily basis, is reckless.
