Review of my book, LIFE, LOSS, LOVE.
This is a very honest, open and sometimes raw memoir from one of New Zealand’s celebrated ladies.
Lorraine gives us the stories behind the headlines – what was she really thinking and feeling as she was crowned Miss Universe in 1983 at just 19 years old? From a girl who grew up in Mt Roskill and Pakuranga, Auckland, to the dizzying heights of the world spotlight and all that her reign required.
Lorraine writes straight from the heart and tells of her phases in life with a goal to possibly help or inspire others – a rare gift and mindset in this competitive world! Hardworking and diligent, Lorraine has lived out her life on and off in the New Zealand spotlight – from her marriage to All Black Murray Mexted, motherhood to Hilton and Jasmine (who she regards as her greatest achievement), sadness after divorce and her sheer grit and determination to create image and colour consultancy businesses both in Wellington and then onto Auckland. Lorraine experienced both warm hearted friendships along with disappointing business betrayals and through this, Lorraine reveals a tenacious approach to life – something she needed as she competed in Dancing With The Stars TV Show. But life is full of highs along with lows and whilst she found new and blissful love with Martin Crowe – her resilience was required as she cared for Marty through his cancer. She’s certainly packed a lot of life into her years and this is a read whereby you may just need your tissues too.
